Annie

Former LD Pankowski caps remarkable season with gold medal at Women’s World Championships

Former Lady Ducks forward Annie Pankowski helped the U.S. Women’s National Team win their fifth International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship in six years with a 7-5 victory over Canada at Malmo, Sweden. Pankowski got Team USA on the scoreboard just three minutes into the title game. She played in all five games at the tournament. She has competed for several national teams in the past and nearly made the National Team for Sochi Olympics in 2014. The gold medal at the World Championships capped a phenomenal season for Pankowski, who began playing for the Lady Ducks at 8U.

Pankowski led the University of Wisconsin to the Frozen Four, where they fell to eventual champion 3-1. Along the way she led the Badgers with 21 goals and 43 points and received numerous postseason awards. She was selected the National Rookie of the Year by both the Women’s Hockey Commissioners Association and U.S. College Hockey Online. Pankowski, who is from Laguna Hills, earlier was selected the WCHA Rookie of the Year.

Pankowski helped her 12U Lady Ducks team capture a USA Hockey National Championship in 2007. Her older sister Ali also is a former Lady Ducks player and served as captain of Princeton University’s team this past season.
